Berat and Apollonia – 1 Day

Departure: 08:30 AM from Vlora

The journey begins towards the city of Berat, located at the foot of Mount Tomorr and along the banks of the Osum River. Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is famously known as the “City of a Thousand Windows” due to its white houses with windows seemingly stacked one above the other.

During the visit to Berat, highlights include:

• Berat Castle

• St. Mary’s Church, transformed into the Onufri Museum, featuring a collection of icons by the 16th-century Albanian master Onufri

• Narrow cobbled streets and unique architecture
  Berat is also renowned for housing two of the oldest known New Testament Bibles, dating back to the 6th and 9th centuries.

Lunch can be enjoyed in a traditional house within the castle.

In the afternoon, departure for the ancient city of Apollonia (approximately 1.5-hour drive). Apollonia was one of the most important centers in the Roman period. Octavian Augustus studied philosophy here before returning to Rome to become the future emperor.

During the Apollonia visit:

• Walking tour of the ancient city

• Visit to the Orthodox monastery, now converted into an archaeological museum

Late afternoon, return to Vlora and end of services.
